Well folks, a fun time was had by all present at the car park of the Arima Race Course on July 29th. Karters and supporters came out in spite of the inclement weather and enjoyed a great day of racing. Races were run off starting with the 100cc class, Rotax Masters, Cadet class, 125 Shifters and Rotax International. Each class as usual had three rounds of racing with the final race of the day in each class being the longest
In my last commentary I indicated that Jonathan Mc Kenzie (30) had to be watched and guess what … I was right!! In the very first race going into the ‘S’s Jonathan and Brittney Mohammed (14) seemed to hearing Bunji Garlin’s song “Clear de way, clear de way, clear de way” as they both somehow managed to weave their way through and gain top positions behind Haresh Nanan (32) and Sheraz Hosein (77). Haresh managed to widen the lead with a fierce battle for 2nd and 3rd. On the very last lap and the last corner leading up to the straight, Haresh backed off a fraction on his accelerator and Jonathan took the opportunity to take the inside line and make an impressive pass to go on and steal victory. Races 2 and 3 werejust as exciting with the lead changing and favorites dropping out. |

Brittney went on to claim victory in Race 2 and Sheraz in Race 3 proving that you can never tell who will dominate on the day. Rotax Masters did not see as many participants this meet but still proved exciting with Gerard Carrington (18), Anslim Ali (70), Martin Abraham (4), Peter Tang (81) and Fyzool Madan (05) thrilling the crowd of spectators. By the end of the day Gerard Carrington was the overall winner in that category.
With school on vacation and exams out of the way, the kiddies, ranging in ages from 7 to 10, came out in all their glory. Bridget Singh, Ty Carrington, Amir Madan, Che Carrington and Daniel Marquis started each race lined up side by side on the straight awaiting starter’s orders. Each race proved to be drag to the top corner with lots of exciting spills and spins as the young ones drove in wet conditions and tested their drifting skills. Just as in the 100cc category there were three different winners by the end of the day. Overall standings stood as Bridget Singh 1st , 2nd place went to Ty Carrington and 3rd to Amir Madan.
The shifter class was well subscribed with brothers Richard Mohammed (11), Marc Mohammed (15), Fyzool Madan (05), John Paul Tannous (33), Gerard Carrington (18), Vernon ‘Chicky’ Martin and newcomer Ray Wongdoo (300). The Mohammed brothers seemed to have had a tough day, but were very competitive in each race. Newcomer Ray Wongdoo clearly has a lot of straightline power and I am sure will be a force to reckon with as the season progresses. Our overall winner for the day in this category was John Paul Tannous who continues to improve at each race meet. |

As usual the Rotax International class seems to be the most competitive of all categories as it boasts of having at least 3 of the countries top circuit racers in the mix and young talented drivers either creating a name for themselves or following in the footsteps of their grandfathers who are/were themselves racing legends. Competitors on the day were Ravi Singh (75), Gregory De Verteuil (101), David Coelho (50), Shahinder Singh (16), Brandon Steele (134), Nicholas Narinesingh (23), Jeremey Rooks (269) and Ryan Peyrau (100) battling for top honours. Each race had its especially
tense moments with drivers barreling at top speed mere centimeters behind or in front of the other. It seemed that the trick of the day was to get to the front as early as possible and open the lead as it left all other competitors battling each other to gain that prized spot. Though still experiencing some technical difficulties Brandon Steele, the youngest competitor at the age of 15 had his hands full as he tried to make his mark in this category, but it was the experience of older drivers that proved to make the difference on the day as top honors was taken by Ravi Singh, who placed 1st overall at the end of the day with, David Coelho in 2nd and Ryan Peyrau, last year’s 100cc Champion in 3rd.
